Lourdes
Lourdes is the largest Marian pilgrimage destination in the world. Approximately 5,000,000 pilgrims visit Lourdes each year to visit the Sanctuaries Notre-Dame de Lourdes, which contains the Grotto and churches.
Besides the Roman Catholic pilgrimage, Lourdes is famous for its historical architecture. Lourdes has been inhabited for over 2000 years and holds historical artifacts, monuments and buildings. Atop a rocky embarkment in the center of Lourdes, lies the Château Fort de Lourdes, a fortified castle that is 1000 years old.
Lourdes offers direct access to stunning Pyrenees nature like Pont d’Espagne at the heart of the Pyrenees National Park, where you can see exceptional wildlife and plants, Pic du Midi de Bigorre (alt. 2877m) with panoramic terraces, or the Pic du Jer for a dramatic overview of Lourdes and scenic hiking. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy in and near Lourdes, or check out Halles of Lourdes, the covered market, or simply relax and enjoy the fine Occitanie cuisine.
Long Course
On the long course of GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet, you leave Lourdes and its Sanctuary of Notre Dame de Lourdes quickly behind to tackle 60km with a series of 800m-high and 600m-high cols along the foothills of the Pyrenees.
At 75km, you begin the climb up Col d'Aspin: 12km long, 800m of elevation gain, a maximum steepness of 10% and topping out at 1493m. Aspin is a Tour de France legend and has been used no less than 71 times.
After the descent off Col d'Aspin, you start climbing again. Now you are racing on one of the holy cycling grounds: the 2115m-high Col du Tourmalet. The climb from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan on the western side is 17.1km long and gains 1267m with an average gradient of 7.4% and a maximum of 11%.
From the top of Col du Tourmalet, you have a 34km descent followed by 13km of slight downhill and flat cycling. Find a group to work with for this final stretch back to Lourdes to navigate the headwinds. Back in Lourdes, the post-race celebrations await you.
LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.
Medium Course
The non-competitive medium course is all about the Col du Tourmalet. You start together with the long course riders in Lourdes. In Bagnere-de-Bigorre, the medium course heads directly up the valley along the Adour River towards the bottom of Col du Tourmalet.
Now you are climbing one of the holy cycling grounds: the 2115m-high Col du Tourmalet. The climb from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan on the western side is 17.1km long and gains 1267m with an average gradient of 7.4% and a maximum of 11%.

MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.

THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.
CHIP TIMING: GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results will be available at gfny.cc/results.
FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they complete. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2025 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
